Frank Scandale became editor of The Record on January 24, 2001. The paper earned another NJPA General Excellence award under his guidance. He lead The Record’s award-winning coverage of the September 11 attacks, which included the photo by Thomas Franklin of firemen raising the flag in front of the World Trade Center rubble.
Scandale joined The Record from The Denver Post, where he served as assistant managing editor for news.

As assistant managing editor at The Denver Post, he was responsible for the paper’s large metro operation, which included Colorado and other western states. While at The Post, Scandale led coverage of such national stories as the Oklahoma City bombing trials, the JonBenet Ramsey case and the Columbine school shootings, for which the staff received a 2000 Pulitzer Prize.

Scandale joined The Denver Post as a reporter in 1990 and has since held positions as assistant city editor from 1991 to 1995, city editor from 1995 to 1996, and metro editor from 1996 to 1999.

The Record appointment marks Scandale’s return to New Jersey papers. He previously acted as the city editor for the now defunct The Daily Journal in Elizabeth, New Jersey and also held editorial positions at Reuters News Service and Travel Trade Publications. He graduated from Glassboro State College with a BA in Communications in 1979.
In addition, Scandale participated in the Poynter Institute’s “Leadership for Managing Editors” in 2000; the American Press Institute’s “Coaching for City Editors” in 1998, and the Poynter Institute’s “Coaching Writers” in 1989.

Scandale, his wife, Lorraine, and their three children reside in Bergen County.
