The Licensing Industry: Lucrative Opportunities for Freelancers
VP of Licensing Company Kicks off First NJ Creatives Meeting in 2004
Paramus, NJ - December 19, 2003 --- From Mickey Mouse to the latest movies and
corporate branding of toys and clothing, the booming licensing industry is a
billion-dollar market with great earnings potential for creative freelancers.
From writers, graphic designers and photographers, to web designers and
illustrators, the licensing industry offers a potpourri of possible business
opportunities.
On January 14, at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science, located
on the lower level of the Bergen Mall, Bill Cross, vice president for business
development, Broad Street Licensing Group, will kick off NJ Creatives' first
meeting of the New Year with an overview of the licensing industry. Featuring a
slide presentation his company uses to pitch new business, Cross will show
freelancers what kinds of material licensing agencies and corporations are
seeking. Networking begins at 7:15 p.m. and the meeting and program begin at
7:45 p.m. Admission is free for NJ Creatives members and $8 at the door for
guests.
Cross' business, based in Montclair, NJ, is a trademark licensing agency,
specializing in corporate brands. During his talk, Cross, a former NJ Creatives
board member, will offer tips on how freelancers can break into this dynamic
industry. "Large corporations expect their licensing agents to secure sales and
marketing materials at competitive prices, even if the company has a huge ad
agency," notes Cross. "Many of these companies are located in the New York City
area, offering freelancers in the tri-state area a chance to provide
competitively priced products and services, whether for graphic design,
copywriting or web hosting and design, among many other freelance
opportunities."
In June 2003, NJ Creatives participated for the first time in
the week-long annual licensing show at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
Cross, an exhibitor there as well, will talk about how freelancers and NJ
Creatives can build upon that experience in 2004 and tap into the very lucrative
licensing industry.
Begun in 1984 by three freelance professionals who wanted to
exchange ideas and referrals, NJ Creatives (also known as the Self-employed
Writers and Artists Network - S.W.A.N.) has grown into a successful non-profit,
dues-paying organization that boasts a diverse and ever-increasing membership of
talented professionals. Members include writers, designers of print and web
media, illustrators, photographers, video producers and public relations
specialists. To insure a high level of quality for clients, every applicant's
portfolio of work must first be evaluated by NJ Creatives before membership is
approved.
