Taking the Lead on the Wellness Track

America’s vast network of acute care hospitals traditionally focus on healing the sick but, for many years, the West Jersey Health System supplemented its lifesaving mission by teaching patients and their families how to avoid disease and live longer, healthier lives. In response to rising health care costs, swelling ranks of uninsured patients, and critical issues like aging, AIDS, violence and teen pregnancy, West Jersey steadily expanded its wellness and prevention efforts in recent years. But the enthusiastic response from community groups and health care professionals soon overwhelmed the hospital system’s limited meeting space. That’s when the West Jersey Health & Hospital Foundation proposed to raise $2.5 million for one of the most significant projects in West Jersey Health System history — a centralized health education facility on West Jersey’s Voorhees campus . . .
