| In the time it takes to read this sentence, an American child will be struck by disaster. More than half of all children are affected by divorce, which takes place in the U.S. every 27 seconds. Other children are orphaned and others live through natural and man-made disasters, serious illness and sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
