During an exam, Janes
pediatrician noticed the child seemed unusually fearful. He carefully questioned the child
and her answers suggested she may have been sexually abused. After talking to
Janes mother, the doctor called the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family
Services. Soon a caseworker came to Janes home to interview the child and her mother
and, later, send them to the Center for Childrens Support. For Jane, this was the
first step in a long healing process. Her story is not unique. Each year, experts
at the Center for Childrens Support evaluate many boys and girls who are suspected
of being sexually abused. These are the lucky children many more go undetected and
untreated . . . |
