“When I grow up I want to be a doll maker.” This
was my answer whenever questioned on my future. I always wanted to
be involved in the arts and begun my career early painting pumpkins
for farms and illustrating weekly sale signs at the supermarket. The
world of illustration grabbed at my soul and pulled me into its
unique and exciting universe.
I studied the arts throughout my
academic career beginning in grammar school and continued at the
University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Here I studied as many
creative avenues there were to offer from watercolor to printmaking,
fibers, wood-working, digital graphics, typography and more. I
wanted to learn it all. It was here I developed my style of what I
call 3-D mixed media: my way of using all the materials I want and
still having a cohesive “style”. I love to learn new things and
incorporate them into my work; I’d like to think I will never get
stale and always have a freshness to my pieces. |
Yes, art as a career is a challenge. But, it is so exciting and in
the end I get to do what I love everyday. With the help of the NJ
Creatives organization I get to stay in contact with talented people
in the field and expand my knowledge with the monthly lectures. I
believe this constant learning and growth shines through in my work
and in me. In the end I like to think my pieces have affected
others, make them think, and/or make them feel something
— stir them up a little.
This is who I am an artist: illustrator, designer, writer and
student of life constantly learning and striving to make
connections.
